About

Kickoff Location:
Garfield Park (see map)
100 North Central Park Ave.
Chicago, IL 60624

On the outside, Chicago is a booming business epicenter, a beautiful city that is attractive to tourists and entrepreneurs alike. However, on the inside it is a city full of need. Neighborhoods beg for attention and repairs that their poverty stricken residents simply cannot provide. The Big Day of Serving is set to meet those needs with your help on Saturday, May 5, 2012 (add this date to your outlook calendar).

Did you know 10,642 homeless students were identified in Chicago Public Schools last year? (Source: Heartland Alliance Mid-America Institute on Poverty) Obviously, this translates to schools not having enough funding to keep up with playgrounds and the upkeep of school grounds. The Big Day can bring help to these schools in need, creating a better environment for kids to learn and hopefully leading to better attendance and graduation rates. Can you imagine what this ONE DAY can lead to? Help make a difference on May 5, 2012 by registering to serve at The Big Day of Serving.

Whatever type of projects your group is assigned to accomplish you can be assured that the difference will be visible…not only through the physical changes to the neighborhood but the emotional changes to the residents. When that child looks at the new playground and then at you and smiles you can be sure they know you didn't do this for any worldly reason…they received this neighborhood transformation as a gift of God's love and they won't soon forget that.

How You'll Serve

Come join us and share in the joy of cleaning a community after the harshness of the winter months.  We will be greening and cleaning on the Westside of Chicago.  Our goal is to partner with other agencies throughout the Garfield Park and Austin neighborhoods and see how beautiful we can make these areas.  We will also be looking at painting projects and ways that we can be of assistance to our senior population.

Thirty years ago, a congregation decided to act out their faith and Bethel New Life was born. Over the years, Bethel grew because it did not wait for conventional wisdom or popularity to dictate what it should do. Bethel grew by identifying gaps in the quality of life of residents on the Westside of Chicago and filling those gaps with faith, love and a spirit of learning by doing.  BNL is rooted in faith; God calls to be about the work of enabling the fullness of life for all, and a healthy, sustainable community.  We work toward making this place a model of what can happen when people work together for the common good. We are a local organization with a national perspective.

The Bethel New Life Mission: Realize God's vision of a restored society by empowering individuals, strengthening families, and building neighborhoods through community-driven, solution-oriented, and value-centered approaches.
